TORNADO DANGER
Eight hundred tornadoes tear through the United States each year, causing billions of dollars in damage and at least 100 deaths. Be prepared:
» If a tornado hits while you're out on the road, get out of your car and hide in a ditch. Lie down with your head covered.
» Don't hide under a bridge or an overpass — a tornado will suck you right out into its funnel.
» Head for shelter, if you can. Once indoors, go to the lowest place possible and kneel on the floor. Protect your head with your arms.
» Stay away from all windows.
» Hide under large furniture or inside a bathtub. Cover your head and body with whatever you can find.
